Then-Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware said in October 2008 that neither he nor then-Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois supported same-sex marriage the 2008 Vice Presidential debate, Joe Biden clearly stated neither he nor Obama believed in gay marriage.
“Let’s try to avoid nuance Senator,” began debate moderator Gwen Ifell to Joe Biden during the debate. “Do you support gay marriage?”
“No.” Biden replied. “Barack Obama nor I support redefining from a civil side what constitutes marriage. We do not support that.”
Biden insisted that the definition of marriage should be “left to the faiths and the people that practice their faiths.”

Four years later, in May 2012, then-Vice President Biden said that he did support same-sex marriage.
Three days after that, President Obama said he also supported same-sex marriage.
